PORTLAND, OR — Ukrainian churches across Portland confirmed this week that while community support for Ukraine has never been stronger, direct communication with God has become noticeably more competitive due to an overwhelming number of Ukrainian worshippers.
According to parish officials, Sunday services are now so packed that prayers are reportedly reaching heaven in bulk, forcing God to “circle back later” on several non-urgent requests from English-speaking attendees.
“We absolutely support Ukraine,” said local resident John Miller, who has been attending a Ukrainian church for the past three months. “But I asked God for help with my mortgage and somehow walked out with a pierogi recipe and a recommendation for a better accountant.”
So Many Ukrainians That God Is Fully Booked
Unofficial headcounts conducted by a very serious woman near the entrance suggest that nearly every Ukrainian in Portland is present at any given service, along with several who “just stopped by for a minute.”
As a result:
- Church services last longer because every prayer includes background context
- Candles burn faster than Portland patience during a sunny day
- God, sources say, has requested a short coffee break
“I used to feel a clear spiritual connection,” said Sarah Thompson of Northeast Portland. “Now there are about 47 Ukrainian grandmothers between me and God, and every single one of them is praying louder, faster, and more efficiently than I ever could.”
Americans Support Ukraine—But Miss Their Direct Line To Heaven
Despite the challenges, American churchgoers insist their support for Ukraine remains unconditional. Still, some admit the spiritual learning curve has been steep.
“I came to church to pray,” said Mark from Beaverton. “I left with homemade salo, three phone numbers for plumbers, and the strong sense that God now addresses everyone as ‘my child’ with a very Eastern European accent.”
Several parishioners noted that prayers beginning with ‘God, grant health…’ appear to be processed significantly faster, regardless of the language used afterward.
Churches Explore Spiritual Scaling Solutions
To manage the growing demand, Ukrainian churches in Portland are reportedly considering:
- Additional services labeled ‘English-Friendly, Still Loud’
- Translating God into English with Ukrainian subtitles
- A separate quiet prayer lane for beginners
Still, most agree the situation could be far worse.
“If you’re going to struggle to reach God,” said one attendee, “it might as well be in a warm room, surrounded by kind people, with excellent homemade food.”
Church leadership concluded that if God has chosen Ukrainian churches in Portland as His regional headquarters, the community is prepared to adapt.
“Honestly,” said one parishioner, “if heaven sounds a little Ukrainian these days, we’ll manage.”

Seriously ? I like this post. Its funny
