Portland Survey Finds 94% Of Residents “Satisfied,” City Realizes It Only Asked People On One Block Of Burnside

Portland Survey Declares Infrastructure “Thriving” After Highly Efficient One-Street Poll

PORTLAND, OR — A newly released Portland survey has concluded that the overwhelming majority of residents are satisfied with the condition of their street, local safety levels, and surrounding infrastructure — after researchers conducted interviews exclusively along a single stretch of Burnside Street.

City officials praised the results as “encouraging,” “data-driven,” and “geographically confident.”

“Ninety-four percent satisfaction is exceptional,” said a city spokesperson while standing next to a laminated pie chart. “We are thrilled to learn the city is functioning optimally.”

The Methodology

According to the report, surveyors asked residents:

  • “Are you satisfied with your street conditions?”
  • “How would you rate neighborhood safety?”
  • “Do you feel supported by local infrastructure?”

Because the survey was conducted entirely on one section of Burnside, most respondents were individuals currently living outdoors in that immediate area.

Researchers described this as “hyperlocal engagement.”

Responses From Burnside

Several respondents expressed approval.

“The street is consistent,” said one Burnside resident. “It’s been here every day.”

Another respondent praised predictability:

“I know exactly where the potholes are. That’s stability.”

When asked about safety, one interviewee replied:

“It’s fine. We all know each other. That’s community-based security.”

Survey data categorized this as “strong neighborhood cohesion.”

Nearby Apartment Residents React

Residents from surrounding buildings expressed mild surprise when informed of the findings.

“They surveyed Burnside?” asked one condo owner. “That explains the optimism.”

Another resident commented:

“If you define ‘infrastructure’ loosely enough, anything works.”

City Hall Celebrates “Efficiency”

Officials emphasized that conducting the survey on one street allowed for rapid data collection.

“Why dilute the results with unnecessary geography?” said one policy advisor. “We focused where the energy was.”

The final report concluded:

  • Street satisfaction: 94%
  • Crime perception: “Manageable within narrative context”
  • Infrastructure rating: “Present”

Based on these findings, city leaders declared current policies “highly effective.”

Expert Analysis

An independent urban planning analyst reviewed the survey and noted:

“If you only ask people who have adapted to conditions whether they’ve adapted to conditions, you’ll get strong adaptation metrics.”

The city has since announced plans for a follow-up survey, which will reportedly take place “somewhere nearby.”

At press time, officials were considering expanding next year’s Portland survey to include both sides of the same block for what they described as “a broader civic lens.”
